Pulmicort Warnings

Pulmicort is a medicine that should only be used in order to prevent an asthma attack – taking a dose of this product is useless if you are trying to stop an attack that has already begun. During your intake of this medicine it is very important to avoid exposure to any known infections sources (this includes people who have measles, chicken pox, and so on) because a treatment with this drug could make your immune system fight less effectively against infections.

Before you start using Pulmicort you should alert your personal health care provider if you are suffering from any bacterial, viral or fungal infection, as such a medical condition could prevent you from taking this drug. This medicine is a category B FDA pregnancy drug. Therefore, intake of this medicine during pregnancy should not trigger any unpleasant birth defects. However, if you are pregnant, you should consult it with your personal health care specialist whether it is safe or not to start a treatment with this product (Pulmicort). It has not been established whether this medicine’s main ingredients are able to pass into the patient’s breast milk or not. Female patients who are breastfeeding an infant should ask for their physician’s (or a pediatrician’s) approval to start taking Pulmicort.

Pulmicort Intake Guidelines

Ask your personal health care specialist to give you a set of precise directions regarding how and when you should use Pulmicort. If you have any further questions regarding your treatment with this product, you should ask a pharmacist or a nurse for additional explanations. You should also carefully read the set of instructions from the medicine’s label.

Before you use your Pulmicort Flex haler for the first time you should prime it. In order to do so, you should hold it upright, then turn and lift the unit’s cover off. You should turn the grip until you hear a click. The procedure must be repeated. You should not use extra doses of this medicine – it is important to take it on a regular basis, even if you already feel better. In some cases, the beneficial effects of the treatment with this medicine show after a couple of weeks. However, if you feel that you symptoms have not improved at all, or if they seem to have worsened, you should alert your personal health care provider as soon as possible.

Each Pulmicort inhaler is known to contain 200 doses of medicine. When there are only 20 doses left in the inhaler, you will see a red mark in the top of the inhaler window. This means that you should buy a new inhaler. You will know when the inhaler is completely empty, as the red mark will reach the indicator window’s bottom. Ask a pharmacist to tell you the appropriate way of disposing of this medicine. 

Pulmicort should be kept at the average room temperature in a place that is away from heat and moisture. Do not store this product in the bathroom or near the kitchen sink. It is very important to keep the inhaler dry and clean. You should avoid freezing or refrigerating this product (Pulmicort).

Pulmicort Dosage

Pulmicort Overdose

Although an overdose with this medicine is highly uncommon, if you suspect that you might be suffering from an overdose with Pulmicort you should seek immediate medical attention.

Pulmicort Missed Dose

In case you miss taking one of your doses of Pulmicort, you should use it as soon as you recall. If it is time for another dose, we recommend you to skip the dose that you have missed and proceed with your regular dosing schedule.

Pulmicort Side Effects

If you develop any of these severe side effects of Pulmicort while using this medicine, you should stop your treatment with it at once and seek medical care as soon as possible:

• an allergic reaction (hives; throat closure; difficulty breathing; swelling of your tongue, lips, or face);
• tingling, numbness, or pain;
• a rash or unexplained bruising or open sores.

You may continue using Pulmicort but you should inform your personal physician nevertheless if you develop any of these less severe but more common side effects:

• dry nose, mouth, or throat after using this medicine;
• throat or mouth infection (white patches);
• deepening or hoarseness of the voice, sore throat or cough;
• fatigue or weakness;
• headache;
• increased skin tanning;
• weight loss;
• unpleasant smell or taste;
• dizziness or lightheadedness;
• abdominal pain or nausea;
• glaucoma;
• cataracts;
• mood changes such as aggression, depression, anxiety or irritability.

Pulmicort Drug Reactions

While you are using Pulmicort you should avoid taking Nizoral, as this could trigger unpleasant side effects. Ask your personal physician if you may take other medicines during your treatment with this product.
